Hotel Management is one of the promising courses in present time. The students who are thinking of their career in Hospitality and Hotel Management need to qualify 10+2 examination by recognized institutes. National Council for Hotel Management and Catering Technology (NCHMCT) covers almost 52 institutes of hotel management all over India that includes 16 Central Institutes, 21 State Institutes and 15 Private Institutes. NCHMCT is affiliated to Ministry of Tourism, Government of India. Among the 21 IHM’s, it covers the IHM, Srinagar too. The vision to establish IHM, Srinagar was to provide and promote hospitality education, training to under privilege and development of human resources in J&K particularly. 


Institute of Hotel Management Catering and Nutrition, Srinagar was established in 1982 at Nehru Park, Boulevard, which was later on, shifted to civil lines, Rajbagh at the bank of river Jhelum. The admission to Institute’s B.Sc. programme is done through NCHM JEE conducted by NCHMCT in the month of April. It is a national level entrance exam by which student get the colleges depending on their rank in the exam. Courses offered by IHM, Srinagar

The admission to B.Sc. course is done through NCHM JEE that is conducted by NCHMCT exam conducting authority. Students are required to fill the application form for appearing in the exam. The form is available in both online and offline mode. The eligibility criteria for the exam are:
  1. Students must have passed 10+2 or equivalent with English as the core subject.
  2. The student must be 22 years of age in case of General/OBC and 25 years in case of SC/ST/PD.

The fees of the Application form are:

Online Mode: General/ OBC – Rs. 800 SC/ST/PD – Rs. 400

Offline Mode: General/OBC – Rs.900 SC/ST/PD – Rs. 450

 The exam is conducted in offline mode only and students are required to bring 2 copy of their admit card to the exam Centre. The exam carries 200 questions with 1 mark for each question. The duration of the exam is 3 hours and is divided into 5 sections. The sections are listed below:

  1. Numerical Abilities
  2. Reasoning and Logical Deductions
  3. General Knowledge and Current Events
  4. English language
  5. Aptitude for Service Sector
The result of the exam is being announced in the month of May. Students are ranked on the basis of the merit list, which is being decided by the exam authority depending on the highest marks obtained by the student. Further, the students undergo NCHM Counselling and are allotted the college accordingly.
